OK Go and Chevy Rock the Internet

If you don’t know who OK Go is at this point, you must’ve spent the last half decade living under a rock. Nothing against rocks; we’re sure yours was very nice, but if there was a Mount Rushmore of YouTube stars, Ok Go would be chiseled into the side of the mountain.

But what do they have to do with Chevy? It’s a great question, and one that can easily be answered by watching the following video:

Leave it to these guys to do something outrageous for what was sure to be a viral music video hit, and if you were looking close enough you likely noticed that the vehicle undergoing this barrage of desert musicality was the 2012 Chevy Sonic, something that Grayslake new Sonic dealers like ourselves obviously love.

In the past they’ve done choreographed dances on treadmills, created an intricate Rube-Goldberg machine, done insane things with stop motion filming, and now this. According to Damian Kulash, the band’s frontman, it took over a month to decide which objects would make the right sounds to sync up with the song, then another month to construct the route in the desert. Toss in three days to learn stunt driving and four days to actually film it all, and you’ve got quite a lengthy process just to record a music video and do a little promoting for the new Sonic.

Of course we here at Ray Chevrolet aren’t going to complain. The video is creeping up on 13 million views in just a week on the web, which equates to a whole lot of eyes on one our best-selling new vehicles. Now, instead of living under a rock, you’re rocking out, and it’s all thanks to OK Go and Chevrolet.

Check Out Chevy’s 2012 Super Bowl Ad!

The Super Bowl is nearly upon us, which for the automotive world means that Super Bowl commercials are nearly upon us as well. You don’t even have to be a football lover to appreciate the clever advertisements that air in droves on the greatest sports Sunday of the year. All you need is an appreciation for good company, snack foods, and great commercials to get the most out of the evening. We here at Ray Chevrolet hope our parent company’s commercial that night provides plenty of good giggles.

Having seen it ourselves (and you can too by scrolling down and checking out the YouTube clip below), we’re pretty sure it’s going to pleasantly surprise some people with its simple, yet tasteful humor. The ad itself stars the new Chevy Camaro SS Convertible, and was written by Zach Borst, an indie filmmaker in his mid-twenties that won Chevy’s Route 66 Super Bowl ad contest. He made the spot in four hours on a weekend, uploaded it to YouTube, and hoped for the best. The best, as you can see, happened for the kid, and pretty soon we’ll all get to experience the hilarity ourselves when it airs to millions and millions of people watching the game all over the globe.

The beauty of the commercial is that, while it’s clearly advertising the Camaro, it could also help open some potential customers’ eyes to other great vehicles we offer, like the new Sonic and the new Malibu. Grayslake Chevy dealerships like ourselves have plenty to offer for car buyers of all types, and we just hope this hilarious Super Bowl ad helps bring more future Chevy drivers through our front doors.

Here’s the commercial:

We’ve seen the new Malibu at auto shows, so we already have some idea of what to expect with the latest iteration of our mid-size sedan, but actually having them in person for patrons to test drive and potentially buy is another story altogether. We feel like a bunch of kids on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa to drop off all those fantastic gifts, and really, do you blame us? … Continue Reading
